These are the first two stories set in the Darnek universe combined into one book. Each follows Kendro, a soldier, at different points in his life.

In the first, when Kendro backed Ambos in his overthrow of Parmat’s corrupt government, he believed wholeheartedly in the man he helped and the message of tolerance and inclusion he espoused. But what happens when that new regime proves to be less than what it promised? What happens when history begins to repeat itself?

In the second, as a child Kendro had to go through a rite of passage known as the Inmish Taka to determine if he was worthy of becoming one of Darnek’s elite soldiers. The rite demanded knowledge, hardship, and sacrifice, more than he ever dreamed possible, and changed him in ways he would not realize for years to come.
